Caregivers must provide care and services in an atmosphere respectful of human life and mindful of the special circumstances and needs of each resident. Residents are encouraged to participate in the decision-making process surrounding their care.

RIGHTS of Residents

  • Refuse or consent to the care offered;
  • Give their opinions or comments, regardless of what these may be, regarding the care services received;
  • Fully participate in the decision-making process surrounding their care and services provided.

CONDUCT EXPECTED from Residents

  • Collaborate and actively participate in all efforts to improve their health, if they have given their consent.

PRACTICES AND CONDUCT EXPECTED from Caregivers

  • Obtain the informed consent of residents;
  • Give residents simple and timely information/instructions that facilitate decision-making;
  • Encourage the participation of residents at all times;
  • Explain, in a clear and simple language, the steps, treatments, expectations, risks and consequences of care and services provided.
